Is your computer slowing down? Take it seriously.
If you are not using 2 or 3 anti-spyware programs you may be compromising your Internet privacy. According to my computer technician, one anti-spyware program is just not good enough. Viruses used to be a major problem, and they still are, but now spyware is even a bigger issue. Viruses are destructive true, but some spyware programs are created to steal your valuable private information. In order to keep your system clean, you MUST be running Microsoft's Windows Updates and running at least 2 to 3 anti-spyware programs. DO NOT FORGET THE IMPORTANCE OF REGULAR WEEKLY UPDATES. Anti-spyware programs are only good if they are updated every few days. You must update regularly. For optimum security update at least once or twice a week.
Here are some free and low cost solutions I like...
Mozilla Firefox (free) Want to browse the web more securely. Check out Mozilla. I have actually noticed a difference in my Internet speed and security since switching from Internet Explorer to Mozilla. It has been named PC World's - "Product of the Year" (June 2005), Forbes - "Best of the Web" (May 2005), PC Magazine - "Editor's Choice Award" (May 2005), CNET - "Editors' Choice" (November 2004), and LAPTOP Magazine - "Editors' Choice Award - Best Web Browser" (October 2004).
Mozilla Thunderbird (free) I once had a computer tech tell me the the majority of computer viruses get spread through email programs like Outlook. Even using a well known anti-virus program I still got a virus. His recommendation was Mozilla Thunderbird. I have now used Mozilla Thunderbird since 2003, virus free. An added bonus is that Mozilla only displays pictures you choose to display. Pictures do not automatically download. You have control over which pictures you want to download and display.
Ewido is an absolute security must! (free demo download) Ewido helps keeps your system free of Trojans and backdoor dialers. My experience has been that this program has found intrusive programs that others did not.
Ewido targets Trojans and back door dialer programs. Check out the demo download of Ewido. It is awesome! Unbelievable what it finds. Ewido found over 2500 Trojans, spyware, malware, dialers, etc on my aunt's computer. Many other people which I have referred to Ewido have reported similar results. Even my computer savvy brother-in-law was surprised that it found items on his highly maintained system that other anti-spyware programs missed.
Ad-Aware (free) This is a free but good program.
SpywareBlaster (free) "Spyware, adware, browser hijackers, and dialers are some of the fastest-growing threats on the Internet today.
By simply browsing to a web page, you could find your computer to be the brand-new host of one of these unwanted fiends!"
This is a program which "prevents the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests." Quoted from JavaCoolSoftware.com. This program blocks spyware from being downloaded in the first place!
"House Call" Virus Scan (free) Free AVG Virus Protection (free)
Warning:
Be careful what anti-spyware programs you add to your computer health agenda. From what I understand, some "anti-spyware" programs can actually add spyware of their own to your computer. I recommend the above combination of software programs because they have worked well together for me for years. It's an affordable solution with several of the programs being free. Whatever you do, do not overlook the Ewido program. I have found it to be a powerful system to combat intrusive and potentially destructive Trojans and backdoor dialers.
