Diary of A Stay at Home Mom
Hi, I've been a stay at home mom since 1991. Our kids are active in sports, field trips, learning, and civic duties. I am also a work at home mom who is very happy to be working from home doing what mothers seem to do best, sharing. You see, September 2003 I purchased an online bookstore of my own. It fit right into our family life. I made a few buck each month and my site paid for itself rather quickly. Once I recaptured my initial investment, I turned my money around and bought my daughter a site. It was 3 months after purchasing my original store. She was 16 at the time. My husband and I had always wanted to use our children's teen years to get them established in some kind of income venture. We had struggled long and hard during our 20's and 30's as an one income family. I started my work career originally as a loan officer. I went on to become a real estate appraiser. My final out of the home job was as a commercial loan officer. I quit my career to stay home with my children. Let me back up a little... Pressure in my family had always been great to become "somebody." When I was a teen, my father and I would stay up into the early morning hours discussing personal goals. He said, "Work hard, head up your own corporation and them someday, maybe when your 40, then think about dating." He encouraged me to "travel the world!" Based on how I was raised I was proud to say that I didn't have a maternal bone in me! During high school I avoided babysitting like the plague. I wanted nothing to do with kids at all! Then one day, things changed. I had gotten married. I was sure I could do it all; Have a house, career, and raise my daughter. But, one day something out of character and quite foriegn happened to me. I had just dropped off my 6 month old baby at her sitter's house (nothing unusual), got in the car, (and then the unusual) I started to cry. From that moment on I knew I needed to be home with my daughter. Life changed dramatically from there. We sold our house and moved back into an apartment. It was difficult to make ends meet on one salary. Times were really tough. Finances were extremely tight. I learned to bake bread and cook from scratch while my husband worked all the overtime and odd jobs he could get. (To the young mothers out there reading this, thinking, "That's us!" let me encourage you to focus and persevere. What got me through those really difficult times of young motherhood was this thought,"Who will thank me in 20 years, the house or the kids?" I was committed to making home a little slice of Heaven on Earth.)
Let's forward to the present... In 2003 I started working from home. The Lord has taught me many new things and has allowed me the opportunity to bring in multiple streams of income. Working from home is real, you just need to find your niche. As they say in the animated kid's movie Robots, "See a need. Fill a need!"
